You Need to Know New Technologies In Sportswear Fabric

Besides the arduous hard work, functional and innovative Sportswear Fabric provides a competitive edge to sports persons, bringing them a step closer to their objective of winning. The sportswear industry strives to design technologically advanced and technically innovative apparels to stay ahead in the race.

Sportswear is promising to be one of the fastest growing sectors of the textile industry. The global market for sportswear is presently estimated to be $6.40 billion and is expected to grow to $ 7.60 billion by 2014. United States is the largest market for sportswear and is estimated to be worth $ 80 million. China, Japan, and Brazil remained prospective markets for the year 2012, besides US.

New and innovative fabric technologies are being used to help the wearer improve his performance. Fibers that are light weight, soft, easy to maintain, do not shrink, and dry quickly are normally used. Polyester remains a universal favorite component of all sportswear manufacturers, owing to its high resistance to moisture and increased durability, which form the basic requirements of fabrics used in sports apparels.

A novel design for professional swimmers combines the swimsuit, cap, and the eyewear all into a single piece of outfit. The unique pattern allows the swimmer to move swiftly, with comfort and with increased hydrodynamic efficiency. The swimsuit is believed to reduce body active drag under water by 5.2%. A three dimensional mapping technique is used to measure the size of the head and face of the wearer, to provide maximum comfort and to achieve better performance.

Safety has been an important aspect that sportswear manufacturers always bear in mind while designing. Skiers and snowboarders require a sound protective gear while performing to prevent gruesome physical damage. Hence companies have come up with body suits that turn into airbags and protect the wearer from possible injuries.

Sports apparel with the use of smart textiles consists of an in built rescue system, that sends signals, in case a skier or snowboarder is stuck in an avalanche. Such secure technologies in sportswear have made skiers and snowboarders perform stunts and take risks confidently. Moreover, sports apparels come with plastic and heavy finishes around the elbows, knees, and areas prone to abrasions to avoid frequent injuries.

En route are jackets that can keep the wearer warm with the help of sensors attached to the garment. The jacket automatically adjusts temperature based on the existing weather conditions. For instance, if a skier wearing the jacket is exposed to cold air, the gear keeps the body warm, consequently increasing the performance.

A revolutionary sports apparel technique wicks moisture and keeps sweat at bay. It makes use of special cooling polymers, which are visible in the fabric in the form of little blue rings. The moment these rings come in contact of sweat or moisture, they immediately swell up, causing an extended cooling sensation. This cutting edge technology will be used to make performance layers, sleeves, headwear, and shirts for men and women.

Another unique technology adopts use of intelligent textiles to help performers monitor their activities. A mini data cell is placed in a protective pocket, in the back of a sportsperson's base layer garment. A series of electrodes are woven into the fabric along with sensors. The cell transmits wireless signals and information regarding the performances of a player to a distant computer. This technology has been adopted in sportswear of football players allowing the coach to monitor each and every movement, heartbeat, and make comparisons.

An avant-garde application of technology helps in improving performance by wearing socks that can regulate temperature, increase blood flow, and even decrease injuries. These pair of socks work wonders for athletes by increasing the arterial blood flow to supply more oxygen to the body; it helps reduce the muscle stress, calf cramps and muscle pulls, enhancing the wearers performance by 5%.

Manufacturers have introduced the three dimensional measuring of body statistics using CAD to provide tailor made and better fits. Digital apparel samples are created and adjusted based on a sportsperson's virtual fit. Testing movements and performance of the sportswear is done by making the virtual model pass through a series of activities like jogging, cycling, and skating to analyze its efficiency. This has given rise to break through technologies and innovations in the field of sportswear.

    Thermal Insulation
Fabrics with good thermal conductivity are not good insulators, therefore these Sportswear Fabric will be cooler to wear. Air is one of the worst conductors of heat which is why the more still air a fabric can trap, the warmer it will keep you.

    Wicking
Wicking is the transport of moisture through a fabric. Moisture can pass between fibres, yarns and through the fibre itself. The ability for moisture to pass through a fabric will depend on the fabric construction and the fibre type. Synthetic fibres tend to dry quickly and are the most commonly used fibre in athletic wear now.

    Water Vapour Transmission
When high intensity exercise takes place, sweating will occur to evaporate heat off the skin. If clothing is not breathable than there is nowhere for the moisture to escape. This causes moisture to build up inside the garment and on the skin resulting in the body getting hotter. Another consequence is when exercise decreases and heat stops being generated from the body, the moisture (which is less insulating than still air) will then increase heat loss rapidly, especially in a cold environment. From this we can conclude that clothing needs to prevent rain and wind from getting in but at the same time allow moisture from the inside to escape out. This process is known as water vapour transmission and fabrics which are able to do this are known as waterproof breathable fabrics.

Sublimation Polyester Fabric Is An Recommendation

There is no breathability in the fabric, the unnatural chemicals are not made for constant human contact. Manufactures love to use polyester because it’s cheap, thus putting all the cost on the customers who suffer and sweat in this sticky material that’s supposed to be cool and refreshing.

Polyester is advertised as being wrinkle-free, but due to the harsh chemicals that go into making these clothes, polyester is not only hard but can be disastrous on sensitive skin. The chemicals can be rough on skin and lead to rashes. Wear organic cotton instead for a fabric that is great for the environment and soft on the skin.

Polyester emits a huge amount of waste into the earth. We already know plastic is super harmful. When polyester breaks down it can only be reduced into microplastics which stays, non-biodegradable, in our oceans, land, and water.

Just creating polyester takes about 70 million barrels of oil. And this is just for the polyester that is used for fabric. That’s a lot of carbon.

Polyester doesn’t last long. On top of all the other cons of using polyester, it doesn’t even have a long shelf life. After a few wears, you’ll find your dress or shirt starting to fade and even tear. It’s just not worth the risk to the environment, and your money.

With a whole new wave of industries catered to organic wear, you’ll find a lot more natural options for your clothes. Just be sure it’s not blended with any polyester, 100% natural and organic is the only way to be sure the process is safe for the environment and your body!

Knitting Fabric Manufacturer Can Give Some Help

But there’s more to staying cool than having breathable fabric. If you’re going to be even a little bit active, then you’re really on a quest to find the coolest fabric.

The knitting fabric manufacturer will start the discussion with the features you need to look for in a fabric, then provide some pros and cons for different types of materials.

If you want clothing that’s breathable and cool for warm-weather activities, consider these main factors:

Fabric construction and weight: In general, tighter knits or weaves create less breathable fabrics, while more open knits or looser weaves will be more breathable than tight ones. Thinner materials and finer yarns also affect breathability. For a quick, nonscientific test, hold a fabric up and see how much light passes through it—more light suggests more breathability.
Moisture management: Lightweight breathable fabrics help reduce sweat, but moisture-wicking and quick-drying materials go further by taking advantage of the body’s natural cooling mechanism to evaporate moisture away from the skin.
Fit: If your primary activity will be relaxing, then look for a loose fit; if you’re getting moisture-wicking clothing because you plan to be more active, then you need the garment to be in contact with your skin to do its job—not necessarily skintight, but not super billowy either.
Mesh panels and air vents: Some clothing, especially product designed to provide sun protection, includes strategically placed mesh panels and zippered air vents. To learn more about soaking up the sun more safely, read How to Choose Sun Protection (UPF) Clothing.

    Breathable Fabrics
Below are broad characteristics of some common warm-weather fabrics. Be aware that features can vary quite a bit within each type of fabric. Also, clothing makers can blend fabrics to achieve a difference in performance, and they can add finishes that alter the typical characteristics of a fabric.

    1. Cotton
Available in an incredible variety of fabrics, including all sorts of “non-active” summer clothing.

Pros: Soft, durable, breathable, versatile and easy to care for.
Cons: Absorbs moisture (doesn’t wick away moisture or dry), which is why it’s a poor choice if you plan to break a sweat—in searing heat, though, some people wear cotton and douse it in water to enhance the evaporation cooling effect.
    2. Nylon and Polyester
Most activewear features one of these two synthetic materials.

Pros: Wicks moisture and dries quickly; resists pilling and abrasion.
Cons: Not as soft as cotton; retains odor; breathability varies based on yarn size and knit or weave.
    3. Rayon
You find a wide variety of plant-based-but-highly-processed fabrics under names that include rayon, viscose and lycocell; fabric properties vary widely and these fabrics are often blended with other fabrics to achieve different characteristics.

Pros: Has a silky feel, moderate breathability, drapes nicely, dries quickly.
Cons: Doesn’t wick away moisture as well as polyesters or nylons; wrinkles easily; many rayons require dry cleaning.
    4. Linen
Derived from the stalks of flax plants, it’s a popular fabric for casual summer wear.

Pros: Very durable and easy to care for; typically has excellent breathability because linen fibers are large and clothing styles feature more open weaves.
Cons: Like cotton, it absorbs moisture (doesn’t wick away moisture or dry), which is why it’s a poor choice if you plan to break a sweat; also wrinkles very easily.
    5. Silk
Often used in underwear; also used in upscale casual wear.

Pros: Luxuriously soft, lightweight and breathable.
Cons: Fragile; not moisture wicking; retains odors; typically requires hand washing.
    6. Merino Wool
Often used in long underwear or winter wear, it can also be a good summer fabric; early generations of wool were scratchy; today’s merino wools are quite soft.

Pros: Breathes well; wicks moisture and is available in lightweight, summer-worthy styles. Doesn’t retain odors like synthetic fabrics do.
Cons: Less durable than cottons, nylons and polyesters.

Sportswear Fabric (polyethylene terephthalate) is derived from a chemical reaction involving petroleum, air, and water. This artificial fiber is comprised of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monotheluene glycol (MEG).

Polyester is thermoplastic, meaning it can be melted and reformed. When making polyester, chemists melt polyester pellets and force them through small holes (spinnerets). On the exit side of the spinnerets, the continuous filaments of what we know as polyester fibers solidify. The size and shape of the hole dictate the shape and diameter of the fibers. The fibers are solid polymer; there are no void spaces inside the fibers. These continuous filaments—called “tow”—can be cut to any length (there is no length distribution, all fibers are manufactured to be perfectly homogeneous) to produce staple fibers for use in textiles and nonwovens, or they can be left as a continuous monofilament, which resembles fishing line.

Polyester Sportswear Fabric is frequently seen across a variety of niches. It is a man-made fabric that is made out of synthetic, polyester fibers. These polyester fibers are also known as a man-made polymer.

Polyester fibers are lightweight and durable. They are easily died and are resistant to chemicals. Polyester fabric is efficient because it dries easily and quickly. Because of this, polyester is extremely popular in the sporting and outdoor world. Polyester is also smooth to the touch which makes it extremely comfortable to wear, and thus also popular in other categories.

    Does Polyester Shrink?

So, does polyester shrink? And why or why not? Polyester does not shrink under normal circumstances. Because polyester is made of man-made polymer, which makes the fibers synthetic, the fabric is resistant to shrinkage. If you wash polyester fabric in hot water and then dry it on high heat, it may shrink some, but not a whole lot.

    Polyester Blends

Because polyester is resistant to shrinkage, it is often blended with other fabrics. By adding polyester to things like cotton, you get the best of both worlds of the fabric combinations. Polyester is typically seen in 60% cotton 40% polyester blend and a 50% cotton 50% polyester blend. When you combine these fabrics, you get a shirt that is comfortable, relatively inexpensive, and that is easy to care for. You will also find polyester in tri-blend fabrics. Tri-blends are extremely soft and durable, but usually a bit more expensive.

What Are Polyester & Polyester Blend Fabrics Good For?

Polyester is an extremely important staple in the apparel industry. Polyester fabrics are an ideal choice for the sports and outdoor world because they do not hold moisture and are available in many dry-wicking options. Polyester blended fabrics are also a popular choice for screen printing and decorating because they hold prints well, are durable, resistant to heat, and are relatively low in cost. They are also a go-to fabrication for everyday wear because they are offered in many trendy styles at prices that brick and mortars can’t touch!

    Should You Try Polyester?

After learning about all the benefits of polyester and polyester blended fabrics, you are probably wondering if you should give polyester a try. The answer is yes! You really can’t go wrong with this fabric. And after all, it a nice added bonus to say goodbye to unwanted shrinkage!

The main reason for this is the lack of breathability in pure polyester, and frankly few people like the look now. Blended fabrics also retain many of the benefits of polyester; being more resistant to wrinkling, having more stretch, and sometimes more resistant to wear.

Outside of fashion, polyester is used for a great variety of products; the most common being plastic bottles and containers. Some others include sailcloth, canoes, tarpaulin, LCDs, insulating tapes, various items for film, ropes, cord, and more. Polyester is also commonly used as a finish to high-quality wood products like pianos, guitars, and vehicle interiors (which is then polished to a glossy, durable finish).

Polyester Sportswear Fabric is hydrophobic, meaning water-resistant, so it is less likely to absorb stains than other fabrics.

Polyester dries quickly, unlike other types of fabric.

It is also super stretchy and very strong. Polyester clothes tend to hold up to everyday wear and tear much better than cotton ones.

Additionally, since it is such a flexible fiber, it doesn't wrinkle as easily either. It bounces back to its original shape instead of getting creased. This makes it the perfect fabric for undershirts that need to fit smoothly against your skin under other shirts.

The best part of polyester is that it blends easily with other fabrics. So, while a typical shirt made of 100% polyester will be stretchy and warm, a shirt made with a 50-50 blend of polyester and cotton will retain the good qualities of polyester along with all the good qualities of cotton.

But there’s more to staying cool than having breathable fabric. If you’re going to be even a little bit active, then you’re really on a quest to find the coolest fabric.

Sportswear Fabric with good thermal conductivity are not good insulators, therefore these fabrics will be cooler to wear.

The new wonder of this technically-bred super-fiber is its ability to regain to its original size when not in use. Nylon Spandex is a great substitute for rubber in clothing since it has the great elasticity that can easily return to its original shape. Clothes made from Nylon Spandex are more comfortable, even though, they are tight. Nylon Spandex fabric is very much lighter compared to natural rubber that is easier on the skin.

Nylon Spandex used in Sportswear Fabric, an anagram of expanding, initially start using as the preferred costumes of the superheroes like Superman and Batman, but was soon embraced by the athletes of our modern world. Swimmers, gymnasts, and figure skaters wear Nylon Spandex to significant effect. Not even athlete and swimmers, our cricketers also wear Nylon Spandex undergarments on the field.

Not even in sportswear, Nylon Spandex fabric has lots of benefits for another purpose as well. Apart from its ability to regain its original shape when not in used and form, Nylon Spandex is extremely comfortable fabric. It is lightweight and supple as well as resistant to body oils or perspirants. It is also abrasion resistant, pile, and static-free fabric.

Nylon Spandex has come and gone out of fashion over the years in various forms. For example, Nylon Spandex jeans were very popular in the 1980’s. Nylon Spandex has been the material of choice for sports garments since its discovery. Here are some of the primary uses of Nylon Spandex.

Nylon Spandex is mostly used in Swimsuits costumes. The Underwear, Bra straps, socks also preferred to have of Nylon Spandex material. Other sports accessories like cycle shorts, Wrestling suit, Netball, and volleyball suit are also preferred to have of Nylon Spandex fabric. The other stuff prepared from Nylon Spandex includes wetsuits, gloves, Diapers, motion capture suits and Zentai suits, belts, Surgical hose and Rowing unisuits.

The Nylon Spandex is very much popular science fiction too. Comic book Characters are all dressed in Nylon Spandex costumes. The Nylon Spandex was thought to be the future material, so all stories and comics featuring dressed their characters in Nylon Spandex garments.

The versatility and strength of this fabric mean it can be used for a variety of purposes. The exercise shorts are one of the most common applications of this fabric because they permit the body to breathe, and the muscles expand and contract during the exercise. Another reason is probably that, it lets you observe the muscle during the workout and get egged on by the sight of it.

  • You Need to Know New Technologies In Sportswear Fabric
    ١ members
Rigorous practice and intensive training helps athletes break records and accomplish their goals. If you have interests about wrinkle free fabric, welcome to your come and purchase!

  • Sublimation Polyester Fabric Is An Recommendation
    ١ members
While sublimation Polyester fabric feels strong, it’s unbearable to wear. We are one of the wrinkle free fabric and welcome to contact us at any time!
  • Knitting Fabric Manufacturer Can Give Some Help
    ١ members
If you’re looking for the most breathable fabric, you’re probably trying to keep your cool in the heat. If you want clothing that’s breathable and cool for warm-weather activities, consider these main factors: Fabric construction and weight: In general, tighter knits or weaves create less breathable fabrics, while more open knits or looser weaves will be more breathable than tight ones. Breathable Fabrics Below are broad characteristics of some common warm-weather fabrics. Be aware that features can vary quite a bit within each type of fabric. Also, clothing makers can blend fabrics to achieve a difference in performance, and they can add finishes that alter the typical characteristics of a fabric. 1. Cotton Available in an incredible variety of fabrics, including all sorts of “non-active” summer clothing. 2. Nylon and Polyester Most activewear features one of these two synthetic materials. Pros: Wicks moisture and dries quickly; resists pilling and abrasion. Cons: Not as soft as cotton; retains odor; breathability varies based on yarn size and knit or weave. 3. Rayon You find a wide variety of plant-based-but-highly-processed fabrics under names that include rayon, viscose and lycocell; fabric properties vary widely and these fabrics are often blended with other fabrics to achieve different characteristics. Pros: Has a silky feel, moderate breathability, drapes nicely, dries quickly. Cons: Doesn’t wick away moisture as well as polyesters or nylons; wrinkles easily; many rayons require dry cleaning. 4. Linen Derived from the stalks of flax plants, it’s a popular fabric for casual summer wear. 5. Silk Often used in underwear; also used in upscale casual wear. Pros: Luxuriously soft, lightweight and breathable. Cons: Fragile; not moisture wicking; retains odors; typically requires hand washing. 6. Merino Wool Often used in long underwear or winter wear, it can also be a good summer fabric; early generations of wool were scratchy; today’s merino wools are quite soft. Pros: Breathes well; wicks moisture and is available in lightweight, summer-worthy styles. Doesn’t retain odors like synthetic fabrics do. Cons: Less durable than cottons, nylons and polyesters.
